Application Development, Linux, Drupal, Objective C, what does it all mean?

This is my first Ridgefield One Insider post. In fact, this is my first attempt to blog, ever! So bear with me and here it goes....

Since March, when I began working for Ridgefield One, an IT and Creative Staffing Company, I've been trying to acclimate myself to the world of IT, specifically, the language. Or, should I say, numerous languages! My colleagues, David, our VP Sales and Gary, our Recruiter, have experience in IT consulting, development and project management, therefore they’re well versed. During my five year tenure with an online marketing company I heard words like "Java" "Access" "Linux" ".NET" "Application Development" get tossed around, but never tried to understand or had any need to apply those systems. After five months I'm still trying to grasp the terminology. This is a real must in order to have an intelligent discussion with hiring managers or professionals in the industry.

Today I heard a new one, "Drupal." We need a Drupal Developer. Drupal, as I understand, is a content management system or open source software that allows an individual, a community of users, or an enterprise to easily publish, manage and organize a wide variety of content on a website. OK.

I've decided to use this forum to share with you my continued journey into this world. My goal is to understand the basic framework of how websites are developed, both front-end and back-end, and also gain a better perspective on how the technology is evolving, and being utilized for various purposes. I’ll be reaching out to you for feedback and suggestions on resources that will help this newbie with this quest. Don’t worry, not all the posts will come from me. You’ll also hear from David, Gary, and Cheryl, our President. They’ll give you the inside scoop on the inner workings of the interviewing and hiring process in the tech world.  I hope you’ll enjoy my posts and perhaps, maybe you’ll learn something too in the process!
